Matana MiShamayim (Hebrew: מתנה משמים, "A Present from Heaven") was a 2003 recipient of the Israeli Film Academy Award. Seeing this as confirmation that life is worth living, Yonatan decides to approach his father. His father resents this but agrees to meet Yonatan at the hospital where they find out that Yonatan's mother has died leaving them only one each. Nehama decides to exchange the memory of his dead wife for Yonatan's life. He gives his son a new haircut and makes him shave; he then takes him to the swimming pool where he teaches Yonatan how to dive. Nehama and Yonatan return to the hospital where they discover that Nehama is in danger of losing his job at the Ministry of Transportation. Nehama tries to pretend that everything is normal, but Yonatan sees through it and realizes what is going on. He pretends to agree with his father and begins acting like a normal person, which makes him popular at school and at work. This prompts Nehama to go out and buy Yonatan a new bike. With no memory of his father, Yonatan discovers that his father's attitude toward him is very different from the assistant coach's. The assistant coach explains, "You can't sum up an entire lifetime in a few days. Life is not made of floors and walls, but moments and memories." Eventually Yonatan feels close enough to his father to ask him about his mother, which Nehama admits was a mistake because he should have left her alone.
